Born on hold.
Raised on spite.
Galah Broadband started the way most good Australian ideas do: with somebody getting absolutely fed up. Specifically, fed up on hold — forty minutes deep into a saxophone loop, being reassured that the call was important, when it very clearly was not.
So a few of us who’d spent years building networks for other people decided to build one where the phone gets answered. We named it after the galah — the pink-and-grey bird with the big mouth, and the thing your nan calls you when you’ve done something daft. Both felt right.
Run by galahs. Somehow excellent.
the bird AND the insultWhat we actually are.
Here’s the honest version, because you deserve it: we don’t dig our own trenches or string our own fibre. Nobody our size does, and anyone who implies otherwise is having a lend of you.
We’re a small retail ISP riding carrier-grade wholesale infrastructure — the same serious, big-network plumbing the giants use. We buy wholesale NBN capacity, plug our own systems into it, and sell it to you with the bit the big players keep forgetting: service. Generous capacity so evenings don’t crawl, a portal that tells you the truth, and humans on the phone who know what a line test is because they’re looking at yours.
Big-telco bones, corner-shop manners. That’s the whole trick, and we reckon it’s a good one.
Four rules. Stuck to the fridge.
Not a mission statement. A list of things we’ll cop an earful for if we ever stop doing them.
Answer the phone
Ring 1300 425 240 and a person picks up. Not a menu, not a bot, not a callback “within 5 business days”. A person.
No weasel words
If a plan slows down in the evenings, we print the evening number. If something breaks, we say “it broke” — not “some customers may be experiencing intermittent service variability”.
Fix it fast
Faults get worked, not queued. You can watch the carrier line test run from your portal at 2am, because waiting until business hours to find out is rubbish.
Charge fairly
One price, every month, GST in. No setup fees, no exit fees, no “special” first-six-months rate that doubles when you stop paying attention.
Sound like your kind of galahs?
Check your address, pick a bird, and see how internet feels when somebody answers the phone.
Pssst — Galah Broadband is the demo brand of an open-source ISP starter kit. Clone it, rebrand it, launch your own.
